They’ve known each other their entire lives, have been dating since the summer after graduating from high school, have been engaged for a year and a half, and there are 5 days left until their wedding. All the planning is done, right? Wrong!
Meet Melissa and Dave! They are getting married on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at the Portsmouth Country Club.
Let’s hear from the bride-to-be.
What has been your favorite part of planning your wedding?
The music! We’ve spent nights drinking wine and listening to music we want the DJ to play. We also took a dance class, which was so much fun! We were laughing and stepping on each other’s feet, and had the best time!
What has been the most stressful part of the planning process?
The guest list. As much as you want to have everyone there, you have to pick and choose when you are on a budget. Not inviting children, who gets dates… there are so many things to consider and it can get very, very stressful.
You’re getting married in 5 days… is there anything left to do?
YES! I still need shoes and jewelry… and a guest book.
What piece of advice would you give to other brides-to-be?
Don’t get caught up in the little things and lose focus on what it’s all about! You and your other half, being so in love that you want to spend the rest of your lives together. At the end of the day, that’s all that matters.
Melissa thought they had dinner plans with another couple in Portsmouth, NH. As Dave took the “scenic route” along the coast, he started reminiscing about the summer of 2002, when they used to go to the beach together almost every day. Melissa thought it was very cute, but very unlike him. Naturally, she started thinking… “this could be it!”
Then again, she had this thought every time he bent down to tie his shoe, and so she knew she had to remain calm. They had been dating for 8 years, which meant a lot of false alarms.
While driving along Rye Beach, Dave pulled over and said that he wanted to take a picture of the sky, that it looked beautiful. He asked Melissa to get the camera from the glove box and before she could say anything, he was outside of her car door. She got the camera case out and it felt light. She said “I think you forgot the camera.” He said “I know I put it in there, check again.” As she opened the case, she saw a little black box. Realizing what was happening, Melissa started shaking and yelling “the camera is not in here!” Dave got down on one knee, helped her open the box, and proposed. They celebrated with champagne and strawberries on the beach, and dinner in Portsmouth.
Congratulations you two love birds!
