Amanda Shutts & Kevin Robertson were married on September 15, 2012 at the The Lord Thompson Manor, in Thompson, CT. This is quite possibly the most beautiful wedding venue that CT has to offer. Hold on to your hats everyone.
The rehearsal dinner was gorgeous. Amanda & Kevin’s family and friends gathered around a table set for 30. The theme was green and white. Amanda’s dress was perfection and she rocked it, even better than Carrie Underwood did at the Hollywood Walk of Fame. There was an ice cream sundae bar for dessert and a fireplace I could have sat in front of for the next 5 months straight. I felt like we were in the White House. Or Ralph Lauren’s house. I’ll take either.
All of the girls in the wedding party stayed in The Cottages down the road. They were shabby & chic and I wanted to live there forever. The rooms and spa were white, beachy and comfy cozy. The food was delicious and we had so much fun getting our hair and makeup done, and watching the bride-to-be get ready!
Now on to the big day. Words honestly cannot express the beauty and elegance of the Lord Thompson Manor. Everything was done to the nines and this venue encompasses the idea of a “one stop shop.” They thought of everything and I mean everything. There were cones filled with flower petals for the guests to throw in the aisle. There were gold stones placed on everyone’s programs outside, which were collected and placed in a vase for the bride and groom to take home. One time I thought to myself, “I could really use a glass of wine,” and mere seconds later, the wedding planner appeared with a tray of Savignon Blanc. This place was magical.
The ceremony was on a beautiful fall day, the bride and groom looked like royalty, and the Reverend was equally as funny as she was sentimental.
During the reception, we were seated in 4 intimate dining rooms, which felt like we were eating in a lovely home (mansion). The centerpieces alternated between tall and short bouquets of white roses. Each guest’s menu was personalized. The menu consisted of every delicious appetizer you could imagine (mac & cheese burger featured below), and a surf & turf placed on basil mashed potatoes was the main course. The cake was breath taking and we were lucky enough to watch the baker put this masterpiece together, placing each flower petal on the cake one.by.one. After the wedding guests left, the bridal party and family were left with two bars; one of alcohol and one of soft pretzels. How dare they!
I’m usually a paparazzi at my friends’ weddings but as a bridesmaid, felt it was tacky to be carrying my camera around. As it is, I usually get mad when the real photographer gets in my way, and I didn’t want to make a scene. I therefore give Drew Widger credit for capturing the details of this wedding, and thank Amanda & Kevin for letting me be part of such a beautiful weekend.
