We’re Engaged!!!!!!!!!!!! A Scavenger Hunt Proposal

16 Jul

After a hiatus from blogging, I’m back and more inspired than ever! After years of mildly obsessing about engagements, weddings and wondering what my own proposal would be like, I am so excited to share that Drew & I are engaged!!!!!

Crush TagWe were at my house in Westbrook, CT and spent the 4th of July lounging by the pool and planning to have a cookout. Around 5, I went upstairs to get ready when my friend Elyse brought a box upstairs from Crush Boutique  that she “found in the back yard.” There was a tag on the box that said “Ashley – Fourth of July adventure! Get dressed! – Drew”

Clue 1I thought it was absolutely adorable and thoughtful (it is my favorite holiday, afterall), but didn’t think much more of it until the next clue came a few minutes later. Elyse handed me a glass of wine and some daisies, with another note that hinted to go next door, where my parents best friends were renting. At this point, I started to shake and was hoping that “this was it!” All Elyse said was “just enjoy this, and breathe!” She wouldn’t say a word!

IMG_1851I walked next door, where Abby was waiting with more flowers and another clue that hinted for me to go to the Cuckoos’s Nest in Old Saybrook, CT. Elyse drove me there and when I walked in, saw my brother Patrick and his girlfriend Kristen. They gave me more flowers and another clue.

IMG_1868This clue led me to one of my favorite places, Water’s Edge, where our family friends Barb & Kevin were waiting at the outdoor bar. Barb immediately started crying, and so did I. Luckily, it was time for another glass of wine, more flowers, and another clue!

IMG_1890I went to the marina and saw my parents sitting on the back of their boat. My mom was smiling ear to ear and I half expected to see Drew there. But instead, more flowers and another clue! Which led me to Bill’s Seafood. Everyone was waiting in the outdoor bar. Everyone except for Drew.

BlueI got the last flower and clue. It’s an extremely exciting and emotional feeling, know you’re about to get engaged. I mean I knew, right? At this point, my family was involved and although no one actually said it, the only other explanation was that this was a really cruel joke. And Drew, is a jokester. But luckily for me, I came back home to see the love of my life. At least I thought it was him, it was hard to see through the tears.

Drew was standing in the front yard, looking adorable as ever. He was holding a rose and had champagne and glasses set-up next to the fish chairs in our front yard. It was pretty emotional walking up to him, an out of body experience really, and words cannot express how I felt when he got down on one knee. It was the happiest moment of my life! We celebrated, I cried, we drank champagne on the beach, I cried, and then.. fireworks! The night couldn’t have ended any better. Is magical too corny to describe it? It was magical.

IMG_2143I left out a lot of details – what every clue said, and why the locations are important to me. But each was a memorable place in my life, and Drew ended up proposing at my favorite place on earth – my house in Westbrook, on my favorite holiday. He did everything to make this the most thoughtful proposal for me. My bouquet of flowers even ended up being red, white and blue. I was and am, blown away. I couldn’t have asked for a better night or a better fiance! I’m excited to start blogging about my own wedding plans, so stay tuned!

I want to give a special thanks to Elyse Bichler, for helping me along this “journey” and for capturing these great pictures!

Love Prevails: A Boston Marathon Proposal

17 Apr

Andrew Ruggiero had a plan to propose to his girlfriend after she crossed the finish line of the Boston Marathon. His plan was elaborate, and even included working at the Gatorade tent at the finish line so he could pop the question in front of friends, family, spectators and the Boston Herald news crew.

He didn’t get a chance to propose at the finish line, but this story does have a happy ending. This year’s Boston Marathon will be remembered by most for the tragic events that occurred. But for this happy couple, this day marks the beginning of the rest of their lives together. Love conquers all.  Read more.

Marathon Proposal

The Robin

4 Jan

Spoiler Alert!

How I Met Your Mother has been one of my favorite shows for a few years now. Although the show revolves around Ted finding his wife, this season has very much been about Barney.

I’ve been routing for Barney and Robin ever since theydated in Season 5, and broke up because “two awesomes cancel each other out.” This sitcom got serious when Barney planned one of the most convoluted, but romantic proposals I have ever watched. I cried like a baby.

1.  Admit to yourself that you still have feelings for this girl.

2.  Choose the completely wrong moment to make a drunken move after hanging out at a strip club… and get shot down on purpose.

3.  Agree that you two don’t work, locking the door on any future you could have together, which will drive Robin nuts.

4.  Robin goes nuts.

5.  Find the person who annoys Robin most in the world and ask for her help.  Explain everything to Patrice and hope she agrees to help.

6.  Check with your doctor about possible broken ribs.

7.  Pretend to be dating Patrice.

8.  Wait until Robin inevitably breaks into your place to find The Playbook and show it to Patrice, which you’ll monitor via the hidden cameras you have in your apartment.

9.  After Patrice “finds” The Playbook, have your first “big fight.”

10. Prove your loyalty to Patrice by burning The Playbook, and actually burn it.  You don’t need it anymore.

11. Because your friends have no boundaries, they’ll inevitably have an intervention for Robin, which you’ll monitor via the hidden cameras you have in Marshall and Lily’s apartment.

12. Tell only Ted about your plan to propose to Patrice.

13. Wait and see if Ted tells Robin. And if he does, it means your best bro in the world has let go of Robin and has given you his blessing.

14. Robin arrives at her favorite spot in the city and finds the secret final page of The Playbook… the last play you’ll ever run.

15. Robin realizes she’s standing underneath mistletoe.

16. Hope she says yes.

A Grand Lucayan Proposal

17 Jul

I have no idea who this couple is (creepy), but had to share this picture!  The Grand Lucayan Bahamas posted it on their Facebook page, and it’s freaking cute!

Interested in tying the knot or honeymooning in this Bahamian Paradise?  Their wedding and honeymoon packages look amazing!  After this proposal, I wonder what this mystery couple’s wedding will be like.

Meet Melissa and Dave! Wedding Countdown: 5 days.

10 Jul

They’ve known each other their entire lives, have been dating since the summer after graduating from high school, have been engaged for a year and a half, and there are 5 days left until their wedding. All the planning is done, right? Wrong!

Meet Melissa and Dave!  They are getting married on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at the Portsmouth Country Club.

Let’s hear from the bride-to-be.

What has been your favorite part of planning your wedding?
The music!  We’ve spent nights drinking wine and listening to music we want the DJ to play.  We also took a dance class, which was so much fun!  We were laughing and stepping on each other’s feet, and had the best time!

What has been the most stressful part of the planning process?
The guest list.  As much as you want to have everyone there, you have to pick and choose when you are on a budget.  Not inviting children, who gets dates… there are so many things to consider and it can get very, very stressful.

You’re getting married in 5 days… is there anything left to do?
YES! I still need shoes and jewelry… and a guest book.

What piece of advice would you give to other brides-to-be?
Don’t get caught up in the little things and lose focus on what it’s all about!  You and your other half, being so in love that you want to spend the rest of your lives together.  At the end of the day, that’s all that matters.

The Proposal
Melissa thought they had dinner plans with another couple  in Portsmouth, NH. As Dave took the “scenic route” along the coast, he started reminiscing about the summer of 2002, when they used to go to the beach together almost every day. Melissa thought it was very cute, but very unlike him. Naturally, she started thinking… “this could be it!”

Then again, she had this thought every time he bent down to tie his shoe, and so she knew she had to remain calm.  They had been dating for 8 years, which meant a lot of false alarms.

While driving along Rye Beach, Dave pulled over and said that he wanted to take a picture of the sky, that it looked beautiful.  He asked Melissa to get the camera from the glove box and before she could say anything, he was outside of her car door.  She got the camera case out and it felt light.  She said “I think you forgot the camera.”  He said “I know I put it in there, check again.”  As she opened the case, she saw a little black box.  Realizing what was happening, Melissa started shaking and yelling “the camera is not in here!”  Dave got down on one knee, helped her open the box, and proposed.  They celebrated with champagne and strawberries on the beach, and dinner in Portsmouth.

Congratulations you two love birds!

Women Tell ALL

6 Mar

What is it about the Bachelor that is so captivating?  After 16 seasons and only 1 (one!) marriage, it’s safe to say that we don’t actually watch the show for the love story.  We watch for the drama.  We watch for the crazy.  We watch for lines like, “she’s uglier in person,” and “she has thicker thighs than I do.” And we watch because it’s a guilty pleasure that takes away from the real world for 2 hours, every Monday night.

Last night’s Women Tell All episode was a bloodbath.  It was meant for each woman to get closure. It was their chance to confront each other, confront Ben, and most amazingly, confront Courtney

After weeks of spoiler alerts, tabloids, and last night’s episode, most people believe that it’s true: Ben proposes to Courtney next week.  But that won’t stop us from watching, now will it? I wasn’t completely convinced, and Sassy McFiddlesticks still isn’t, but Courtney said something last night that confirmed the rumors for me. “I care(d?) for Ben.. and I still do!”  It doesn’t look like much of a quote in writing, but if you watched last night’s episode, you know what I’m talking about.  I think Ben picks Courtney, and they’ve already broken up.  How can he not be appalled by watching what the rest of America saw in Courtney?  And why was she even on the show last night? That breaks the traditional rules of Women Tell All!

So who will Ben choose?

Rumor says Courtney, and America will be genuinely disgusted if he chooses her. When Ben thinks of Courtney, he thinks “spirit, energy, nurturing, and one of the most gorgeous women I have ever met.”  She’s also a bitch.  But I have a confession to make.  Courtney has meandered her way in to my heart these past two episodes, and I am ashamed.  Damn she’s manipulative!

Rumors aside, Lindzi is the viewers’ choice! They seem perfect for each other and don’t forget, she got the first impression rose by riding in on a horse.   When Ben thinks of Lindzi, he thinks “beautiful, sexy, firecracker, and everything I could want in a relationship.”

So shouldn’t it be a no-brainer?  He said it himself.. Lindzi has it all.  Courtney is beautiful yes, but also manipulative, self-centered and still quotes Charlie Sheen.  This is exactly why relationships on this show never work.  They’re all on a honeymoon!

Season’s Superlatives

Most Pre-mature Goodbye: “best kisser” Jennifer

Most well spoken: “the body” Emily

Most Awkward: “the straddler” Jamie

Blogger’s Choice: Brittney – “There was no attraction to Ben whatsoever, and my time was better spent elsewhere.”  BRAVO!

Fan Favorite: “baton twirler” Kacie B.
